No way. The plans to straighten them out and powder coat them black. Not to mention having the step is night and day difference in getting in and out of it.

 

Nice find, great looking Tux! Just a heads up: when I got mine on the road 3 years ago, at 35-40 mph I got horrible death wobble. Very scary!! I replaced the old worn out and dry-rotted tires and replaced the shocks and that is it, death wobble is gone. Had her up to 62 mph the other day and straight as an arrow. Front end linkages, steering parts, and knuckle servicing are great things to replace; however, I haven’t replaced any of mine (they seem to be ok- a shop and I both have checked them) Just food for thought!

 

It would look great in its original Empire Blue. Can you post some shots of the undercarriage and under the hood? From what I have seen, it seems to be a fairly rust free truck. Looks like you hit a home run.

 

Not to disappoint you, but I am pretty sure that top is not original to your Tux. Your top was a Willys product, and may have carried over a year or so after Kaiser took over. That top was used starting around '58 or '59 and used though around '63. Variations were also used on flat-fender DJ models. My Parts Manual only lists your top application only as as F4, or the F134 CJ5. Your top is a factory top, just likely from an earlier Jeep.
Most (if not all) hardtop equipped Tuxes came equipped with either Kelly or Meyers tops. Meyers used Tuxes in many of their print advertisments, sometimes even after the Tux production had ceased.

Has been a lot of talk about correct Jeep rims in the past. Here’s a great picture showing the 5 raised bumps between the bolt holes for a stock original rim. (used on the v6 equipped jeeps.)

 

I believe thats an 88" Series 2a, likely a '69 or '70. The axles don't look stock. They don't look to have the 6 1/2" x 5 lug pattern found on Rovers.

Yes, those are the correct '66/'67 original rims.
Those two diagonal holes just forward of the notch over the wheel opening are for an oak block to dampen vibrations of the spare tire.

Welcome to the forum, I love your jeep! I used to be a member of the civil air patrol, so the door sticker is super cool. I also had that same top on my '57. It was being stored outside my parents house in nh while I was away in the Air Force, and a huge icicle impaled it.

You'll find a great group of folks here, with lots of valuable info. We're looking forward to seeing more developments with your new jeep, congrats on the purchase!

 

All tires mounted today. Took out the old steering and will bolt in the new this weekend. Pulled the drums off to check brakes. Someone must of done them recently. Ordered up some small odds and ends. Forgot to buy a spare tire for the side. So just ordered another. Also that red respray I notice is chipping more and more. Makes me want to peel it off some how. Any ideas?

Wire wheel on an angle grinder will make quick work of paint, rust, and body filler. 2-4 wheels can do your average Jeep.

 

Baby got new shoes! Looks good, what size did you go with?
I like the look of those Coker's but I think I'm going to stick with radials.

Then I see a Jeep like this, with the bias ply and think about it some more, so I'm still not sure.

 

UPDATE:
Replacing barings of upfront. Putting back in the replacement steering linkage. Put in a new fan shroud. Got the parts in for the left rear hub. “Old one was bent” thought it was the rim but wasn’t. Went and picked up a old Warn overdrive that was in great shape for 700.00 really cool old guy with tons of old Jeep history and parts. He was in multiple clubs in Sandiego area back in the 80s. Got new V6 emblems in along with dauntless decals.

Also picked up a front bench seat but I’m pretty sure it’s from a later year.

Of course I didn’t take photos. But I did put the spare tire on with the hub caps.
