Grill Holes Help

    50967032-2119-4B7A-A4CE-93DA8E4C8783.jpeg After I looked at a few other grills I do not see that they have these holes like mine. With my 63’ WilLy CJ5 Frankenstein jeep I am now wondering if my grill doesn’t match either. I’ve posted about my radiator/vent issue as someone fabricated the spot where the hood bars connect to gold the radiator but not the grill/vent/shroud (whatever all that is called).
    Did these holes show up on a certain year or?
    Plus what bolts or fasteners go there as I have not found a Jeep with them.

    That looks like the hinge mount points from an M38A1 grill.

    Might be from a 1st generation m38A1, they had hinges there to swing the grill down in lieu of the center mount bolt. If so the inside where the turn signals mount should look a bit iffy.

    Actually your headlights look like the M38A1 design as well.

    This may explain a lot as the engine bay bars look like they do not appear to connect on these models.

    What attaching the bottom of the grill to the chassis? Yes, the early A1's used the hinges, but by '53 (mid-year) they used the center bolt with big bushings to a mount on the crossmember, as adopted by the whole CJ5 range.
    Are those fabricated brackets running down the side of the chassis holding the bottom of the grill?
    I understand the center mount was neccessitated by too much chassis flex twisting up the front sheetmetal on the early A1's.

    Yes i think those brackets are from a PO, but i am not too familiar with Jeeps and all their connections/parts etc.

    I have posted before about trying to figure out why the frame on the back does not align with the back gate/tub. One suggested that my frame may be a 3b, but now thinking it may be a M38. It is registered as a 63 CJ5, but since the bodies are so close it may have just been a guess when whoever was registering with with the DMV.

    I want to start trying to figure out any other markers that can help me with deciphering this Frankenstein.
    Anyone's tips etc. is appreciated. Are there any other markers, etc. i can look for? I tried to find the stamping on the frame but i assume i cannot see it unless the tub is off.
