I saw one for a 20-anyone have a source for one for a Dana 18. Seems like it would help a lot cool the TC down.

This. The bolt pattern for the 18, 20, and Dana 300 are the same so the bottom pans have the same bolt pattern. The 300 had a fairly flat pan but the 18 and 20 pan would bolt up and give increased oil cApacity.
Richard at R&P had one of the old school cast and finned aluminum NOS units for sale. Might be worth calling him. Iirc his had the bolts and was in the original box.

And it's not "beveled" on the lower end so you loose an inch or two of clearance. I use the old AA fined cover in my 3B but I even milled down the fins at the bottom on that. The Novak cover no doubt adds to the rigidity of the case where I'm not sure any of the others add anything significant strength wise.

I have an old AA finned aluminum cover and it seems to be pretty stout.
The flange is like 3/8" thick.

I have one that is finned also, no markings so I don't know who made it. Very thick !
