Cheap/easy Sound Deadening?

Basically I need hearing protection to drive the Jeep with the soft top on for any period of time. It would be permissible if it weren’t my daily but it gets pretty unbearable for everyday driving. Right now I have nothing in terms of sound deadening in the Jeep.

Any cheapish and easy solutions for some sound deadening?

    Thanks

Thick rubber stall mats. Then find the sources. Exhaust leaks. Gear whine. Loose top. Missing body mounts. Low tire. maybe wheel bearing gone bad. Also look for items that are running hotter than they should.

I've heard really good things about lizard skin, and will be using it on my tub when I'm done de-rusting. People have made it homemade with good results too.

In the past I used some aluminum backed bubble wrap stuff called something like "ez cool" or "max cool" or something. It did well with reflecting heat from the floorboards, and made quite a difference in noise as well.

One thing to be aware of is that most sound deadening materials will hold moisture and contribute to rust.

Aluminized asphalt roof coating is a good rustproofer, and adds some deadening. Used on mobile homes, etc.

With my Jeeps in California, I used the factory indoor/outdoor carpet kits with a couple of layers of jute carpet padding under them. Not good if you can't keep the floor dry, but very effective at blocking sound and heat, and nice on bare feet.

I never found the top flapping to be much of a problem. Quiet tires and factory exhaust help a lot, I presume. I've always run a quiet exhaust.

I used a product from amazon called Noico. I lifted the Idea from rejeep's rover build.
If you line the underside of the transmission covers it cuts down on quite a bit of heat/ various drive train noises. I'm not familiar with the intermediate transmission covers, but I was able to go clear up to the throttle linkage.
Like others have said, some belting or thin cow mats can be cut to make really nice mats. Somewhere I saw someone make theirs out of universal rubber semi truck mud flaps.

Tractor Supply sells horse stall mats. These are heavy, about 1/2" thick made of reclaimed rubber. I can only lift one at a time.

Use these on the crusher at work to keep fly rock from taking out the conveyor. All my jeeps have the remnants as floor mats. They make a good pickup bed mat too.

How does the hood insulation do? They seem pretty cheap

Are you talking about using hood insulation under the transmission covers? Or are you wanting to insulate the hood? Personally I would not insulate the hood of a jeep that runs around in California summer time temps.

I was talking about the hood. Makes sense though I don’t want to increase temps any more

I ended up getting a rubber mat from tractor supply. That seemed to quite it down a bit.
