Dragged up this old thread because I am getting ready to do the same conversion on mine. With mine both of the vacuum actuators / dashpots were bad, and the control is questionable. Replacement vacuum pots are available but they are about $50 each and I don't want to make that investment and then find the control leaks. So, I bought 3 universal cables off of Ebay, and plan to do a similar conversion.

The two speed motor in the Jeep works, but I don't have a good 2 speed switch, and having trouble finding one.

I have a variable speed switch with a rheostat which I bought from Walcks a while back, and I have a one wire blower motor from an old Bronco that has been on a shelf for years. The old Bronco motor with the variable switch seems to have a bit more power than the one in the Jeep, so I will probably use that.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

I don't know about a 64 CJ5, but my 67 has vacuum lines that connect to the control, then to the dashpots on the heater flaps. My problem is the vacuum actuators / dashpots. They are shot, and new ones are $50. The earlier Jeeps had cable controls, as did the later ones after AMC took over. I think it is because they work and are cheaper, which is why I am going that route.

My 64 had a skinny little vac line going from the intake right under the carb to the heater switch.

[IMG]This is my 64 motor, it had a small hose going from the vacuum hose, by the coil to the heater control.

Does this help? It’s the image out of my service manual. It shows the different connections for the vacuum tubes.

Where the Brass fitting is right above the distributor on the intake one end goes to the PCV valve the other end has a 1/8" vacuum line going through the fire wall to the heater control, Item 16 in the factory in the manual picture of the heater. Good Luck, Rick
