Inside Rear View Mirror Photos

Yep, saw that thread first. That's what gave me new ideas to try. I was never happy with how I had it mounted before.

 

I have that extra bracket too. It's never been of much use due to the places I've mounted the mirror. I may take it all apart today to paint it so if I do I may add that bracket back on just so I don't lose it and I'll know what it's for later on!

 

If I understand correctly, that's where I had mine mounted originally as well. And yes, I also had tie down interference with it there. Plus the vertical position is wrong and makes it hard to see behind you which is, of course, the idea!

The mirror in post #3 (the later style) was introduced about the same time the curved top glass frame went into production.
The mirror in post#2 was used with the earlier flat top glass on CJs, and was also used on about '60-up Willys Wagons.

Probably when they went with the one piece windshield as the earlier 2 piece windshield had a center bar where the mirror attached via a bent rod and is different than the CJ one.

 

FWIW, I just came across this listing for NOS inside rear view mirrors of the earlier type shown in Post #2 above. I have not checked to see if they still have any in stock:

Thanks, just ordered one. Order went through OK so I'm hoping that means they have them.

Just got a shipping confirmation so it looks good!

 

I too called up Jeepsterman on those NOS rear view mirrors and ordered two. He says he has a bunch. He also said he has sold more of those in the past day than he has for over a year, due to this forum posting.

Helpful?? Those mirrors had reached the level of mythical unobtanium as far as I was concerned. It was more than helpful!!

I was thinking about ordering 2 as well, but I have so much stuff squirreled away now and so little room. Sigh.

Hmm. Doesn't seem simply right to me. It doesn't look exactly like the photo on the website to be honest...



There's a thicker edge on the one you received and it looks wider. What does the back look like?
Do you have any out-of-the-box photos and/or did it come in an original vintage style Willys-Jeep® box?

If it's like the later mirrors, that rubber edge is removable.

 

Is the back metal or plastic? That doesn't look right.
