How Much Space Does The Wheel Well Notch Buy?

Gearing up for the big cut and wondered whether a 3" cut will get me enough space to mess w/ reclining seats. Looking at several Corbeaus and some of those recliners look pretty sweet.

What size are your tires, suspension height, ect...... a 3" notch and stock springs with big tires will create a rub point.

Actually wasn't even thinking wheel clearance. Oops

Typically speaking, earlies have limited room between seat, pedals and the big steering wheel. Folks that are bigger in either the vertical or horizontal dimension will notch the wheel well to move the seat base back. If this is not the case for you (leaving the seat base where it is, but just wanting some recline), you may be able to notch it at an angle whereby tire clearance will not be affected as much. Just a thought.

I got about 4" of leg room. Roxor seats with sliders and headrest.

This is in the Intermediate forum ... you all realize that the driver's seat in these Jeeps is further outboard than in the Earlys? Make sure the notch will work with the roll bar placement, if present.

Zila After the redo to 2 "- did you feel like it was worth it?

Yes. I replaced my OEM seats with Corbeau and the Corbeau are higher and longer..Was a necessity in my case

So 2 " made a difference. Corbeau was my plan. Which seats? Did you need their bracket?

Welding was involved. Wife and I didn't like the seats, used em for 3 or 4 years then sold em and installed something else.. Best top seats. These: Baja JP - Suspension Seats - Corbeau Racing Seats Mine were the reclining model of this.

After thinking about it , I adapted my OEM seat base to the seat using 1/4" or so strap, and welding to the old seat mount. Then I drilled holes in the correct places. The seat is threaded underneath.

I didn't buy the seat bases they sell. As I recall there is an adapter piece that comes with them. Been quit a while.. So I am fuzzy on details

I did the seat notch and installed a smaller steering wheel (with power steering). This works great for me - and my belly.
