Cleaning The Soft Top Channel In The Windshield Frame

Suggestions? Just bought a softtop and don't want to wreck it ripping it in the rusted out Channel.

 

How about a bore snake?

Also a big fan of Evapo-Rust. Pull a cotton clothesline cord through it, irrigate continuously for a few hours while you slow cook some ribs.

 

Dremel tool with a wire brush, insert in slot, run it back and forth?

 

Its rusty enough that I'm not comfortable sliding the too in. It goes in rough hate to RIP it

 

Fold 80 grit sandpaper and slid it through the grove, paint it with a small paint brush through the grove. Tape the outside and no one will ever see it.

 

Sand blasting is the the most effective method for rust removal. Another option is replace it if its really bad. I believe Quarter Ton sells an OEM channel.

here it is, kinda stuffed in there. i don't care for the home made roll bar. still looking for something else. this one is vertical, and doesn't match the windshield profile slope backwards.

 

I'm not aware of any that did (that weren't custom made) before '76.

Interesting. The side panel of your Jeep came from a '72-73 with a solid back panel. Maybe you have a tub that was assembled from pieces? This is the '62, yes? Battery box cover is consistent with a '62.

If you have a compressor, you can get the spot blaster from Harbor Freight (or similar one from TP Tools) and use the Black Beauty media from Tractor Supply; cheap at ca $8 for a 50# bag.

On the tops for my Jeep is a folded strip that tucks into the track. No need to slide at all.

Your windshield looks like its leaning back a bit more than normal, or maybe its the angle of the photo. Roll bars generally don't follow the same angle as the windshield, unless the bars are custom fabrications.
Definitely an interesting tub; Intermediate side with pre-64 cowl, and has a tailgate.

The windshield angle should match the body line in the cowl right below it, as you can easily see in the picture of the red jeep above.

 

Pretty common if the seal rubber is old and compressed.
