I hate oil leaks. Both the front and rear axel fill plugs leak and I'm pretty sure the front vent does too. I hate oil leaks. I've tried tightening them a little but to no avail. Oh, and did I mention I hate oil leaks? I'm thinking about using a little yellow Teflon tape meant for gas. Input?

Gear oil creeps through just about any path it can find. It looks worse than it really is just because it spreads out without evaporating.

NPT plugs do not reliably seal without some form of sealant. There is a pipe thread designed to seal dry, it's NPTF or "dry-seal", and not as common. I prefer brass plugs and fittings because they are more likely to deform a bit to make a better seal, but I still use white pipe thread sealant.

Never liked teflon tape for a joint that I plan to access. Just makes a mess of shredded teflon to deal with.

Just use a good quality Teflon based pipe dope. Coat the threads and tighten it up. It just needs to be snug. Don't over tighten it.

I remember hearing or reading about Jeep oil leaks. It may have been on this this site.......
Jeeps leaking oil is not an issue, it's when it stops leaking that you should be concerned.

I just hate crawling under to do something and coming out coated in mess. So yes I'm one of those guys that wipe off the grease fitting/joint after greasing, etc. And drips on the garage floor flat out drive me crazier.
