Has Anyone Replaced A Rear Axle Lug Stud?

I'm wondering if the axle shaft has to be pulled, would I damage the bearings or anything driving the old stud out with an air hammer?

Probably wouldn't damage anything, but I'd prefer a big C-clamp with a big socket on the backside if there's room between the flange and the backing plate.

That would probably be a lot better, I shoulda thought of that! I could probably get something in through the hole where the wheel cylinder goes (that's why it was apart in the first place) to assist with that. The stud is bent a little, usable but just past my "good enough, put it back together" threshold.

Thanks, I wanted to get some opinions on it. I hate beating on parts with a hammer if I can help it.

A ball joint tool works too already has the hole. I beat em out with a bfh one good smack. And I pull em in with an old lug nut and some washers. The clamp is probably a better way.

Soak The BeJesus out of it with Liqiud Wrench overnite. Put the lug or nut back on a few threads. BFH one swing , it should pop right loose. That's all I did recently.

And no damage to the bearings or anything? Im gonna get one of those ball joint tools to try first but we'll see how it works.

Not that I’ve noticed. Mine gets bearings every few years anyway we wheel em pretty hard.
