    Did that too lol

The shaft spins when clutch is in and in neutral

The shaft doesn't spin when clutch is in and in gear.

The shaft doesn't spin when drive shaft is disconnected and shifts in every gear without grinding

 Staying at least one step ahead of me! I'm out of ideas then. I don't know if it's worth risking carefully driving it as is and hoping it will wear in enough to not be a problem. Pulling it is the safest choice.

If you let it run in your middle condition for awhile, clutch in and in gear, and vary the rpm, I missed if you had a pilot bushing or a bearing... but letting it run for a while may allow the input shaft to clearance it if it is a bushing and allow for normal operation.

Well took trans, TC clutch, flywheel and bellhousing off. Starting from scratch. Existing pilot bearing mic'd up bigger than input shaft. Input shaft turns freely in trans and shifts thru gears fine. So I'm thinking alignment issue now. Going to put new bearing in. Then I need to decide to do a full rebuild. I honestly think it doesn't need one

Probably a good idea while you have everything out. Hopefully you found the problem!

When you install the new bushing in the flywheel make sure the input shaft still fits while you still have the transmission apart.

Well she's all rebuilt, painted and shifts right. Used the actual shaft while out to test fit the new pilot bushing, she spins freely so now back under the truck....ugh

she's all back together. transmission is fully rebuilt, transfer case is fully rebuilt and she shifts fine so the verdict is, since I didn't see anything obvious in the transfer case or transmission a tight pilot bearing pilot.

bearing only slipped onto the input shaft so far and then jammed.

thanks for all you guys that were willing to help
