Dana 44 Power Lok

Maybe grind off the plug a little? I'd be trying to figure out what changed if it cleared before...

 

Yes fill plug hitting thr Powr Lok case is normal with virtually all D44 covers.
The Powr Lok case diameter is larger in diam near the plug.
Just take a bung plug and grind it so it does not intrude into the cover past the bung threads.....

 

I recently installed a powr-lok unit and in the instruction sheet it said to grind the fill plug flush with inside of cover thread area . That was from the unit I bought off ebay that is probably 70 years old.

I also stumbled across a tool in an antique store once called a "bung holer". Apparently used long ago to make the tapered holes in wooden barrels for a plug or spigot. Attaching a picture here as you DO NOT want to Google that!

 

Yeah just a very old term that was used concerning wooden barrels, canteens and kegs.
As you know pipe plugs and fill plugs are tapered very similar to the early wooden bungs.

I'm afraid to ask what else it "bung" may infer these days.
Probably is best to keep any additional information corked up tight ...........

I have an antique bung tool in the garage but mine includes on auger on the leading edge.

 

We still call them bungs in oil drums. The pumps are hung pumps.

 

The hot rod and chassis shops call them weld bungs for custom tanks and such. That seems to be universal.
