Jeez guys, I was just joking. Didn't realize I hit a tender spot. Although she is amazed how I hear car things that others don't and turns out later I'm right.

We're all joking of course. :) I seriously doubt any of us would truly and purposely ignore our spouses. ;)

I have trouble hearing people talk sometimes but can hear knocks and engine noises too. Hearing damage doesnt always destroy all hearing, just certain frequencies sometimes.

And for me, auto frequency is not one of them. I think mine goes back to my youth and driving/racing the same OLD car and all that goes along with it. Break downs on dates, adjusting lifters under a street light, fan clutch and water pump going out 100 mines from nowhere and having to use a styrafoam ice chest to get water out of stock tanks, multiple flats on the same trip (and only one spare), etc., etc. So I just naturally am listening to noises out of the ordinary.

Picked Willie up and for now the sound seems to be gone. Now to start driving him more and build up confidence again. And was NOT asked for any money.

Well, bad news. It sounded ok the first few times going down to get the mail or taking the trash, but today was the first 'long' trip to the bank and gas station. I started noticing a slight familiar sound and it had a problem going up a hill in 3rd that it never had before. It ran a little rough in 3rd too. But as I got to the bank, it didn't want to idle normal and the noise was back at the 2,000 rpm point, just not as loud. And I felt like I was feeling it in the throttle peddle which I never did before. Of course I'm now 7 miles from home. I stopped for gas and the idle was better, but bad sound definately there. Then as I he added up a big hill on the way home, I felt it stumble several times and it died. Coasted off to a side road, but it would start back up. So called wife to bring truck to tow it home. The engine guy said pull it out and bring it over for him to go thru it again. He said warranty work goes to the front of line so as soon as I get it out it gets to him. I need a ski trip badly......

    Time for a second opinion?

I'd be considering taking it to someone trustworthy and sending the bill to the first builder.

Unfortunately, anyone doing warranty work is losing time and money - not much incentive to be thorough.

Quitting running really complicates things now. Is it a coincidence? Personally I'd do a check on easy to see things that could have caused it to not run before pulling it. I'd sure be wanting to be there with the guy when he starts taking it apart......just as a "learning" experience.

I think I would put a oil pres gauge on it before pulling....:watch:

They put a manual guage on to test it before doing the bearings and pressure check ok. He had put a new pump in when he did the rebuild originally.
