Was under Willie today and saw this on the differential. Newhart exactly is that thing about the 2 o'clock position?

It appears as that is where the oil mess is coming from. Is there so sort of replacement or repair? Is is the just part of Willys life, oil everywhere.

Put a length of hose on it and run it up next to the radiator. There is a valve there right?

I don't know. I'll have to look. Was there supposed to be a horse running up to the radiator? And just leaning there or what? Can anyone send me a pic?

The breather should be straight up and down, not tilted like it is. Maybe it has backed out of the threads a bit and is leaking. Shouldn't really leak out of it's cap unless, maybe, the diff is over full.

As noted, you can remove the brother part from the 90* fitting and replace it with a barbed fitting, then run a rubber hose up into the engine bay, thus extending the breather hole and helping to keep water out of your diff. If you never go into deep water, I wouldn't bother. This is a modification and was not a factory thing. What you have there now is how they came from the factory.

If there's oil coming out the vent I'd suspect water has gotten into the pumpkin & raised the oil level up.
