Can anyone tell me what we should put in an f134 hurricane for motor oil?

Your Jeep would have been happy with straight 30 weight if the engine is good condition. Today, that oil is hard to find. Likely, a 10W-30 or 15W-40 non-synthetic would be fine. If the engine has heavy wear/ low oil pressure, a thicker oil may be needed.

I have been running 10-40 in these motors my whole life.

I would run a 20W50 diesel oil like Rotella or Delo. This is what I put in my Jeeps year-round, but I don't drive them in the winter. In Louisiana, 20W50 should be fine year-round.

Thanks for the input. I was running 10w30 in it but seemed to get black awful quick so thought I should ask about it

Black is typically carbon that the oil is washing down from the cylinders. Not the oil's fault. I'd suspect you're running with the choke stuck closed or some other reason for too rich condition. Drive around town for a few minutes and pull the spark plugs and inspect their condition. I'd expect sooty plugs.
