Glove Box

Hi Kids.

Anyone out there know if the glove box for the station wagons is the same size as for the CJ5?

 

As I recall they are not the same. I got a replacement from Walcks for my wagon and CJ and they were different.

 

I made a glove box out of aluminum, it is not hard to do. I made it longer, almost to the firewall. The way the dash is made a square box will work, and you can attach it to the firewall for support. I just bent the aluminum and pop riveted it. I can lock up my stuff and carry a lot more stuff.

You can buy aftermarket plastic ones that literally go all the way to the firewall. I have one and it holds a TON of stuff...storage space in a CJ is always at a premium and this makes use of otherwise wasted space plus it doesn't alter the appearance of the jeep at all.

I also have the Miller version for my CJ5 but as noted above, it is not difficult to box it off to the firewall and make an even bigger space. That is what I did with the 3B but it didn't have any glove box to start with.

 

Speaking of inside storage, has anyone tried put in a wheelhouse "toolbox" like on a MB?

What is the differences between the CJ-5 glove box and a Wagon? Say 1960 or so, looks like no one really knows. Some say they THINK they may be the same.

Some say that they are different, but what is the different? is it just that one is deeper? no one can say that this point.

The original Cardboard Glove Boxes for the Wllys wagon are out there

But not for the CJ-5, at this time, and I’m trying to restore this thing.

 

Okay not really getting anywhere with this glove box project.

Nobody really has any good information on dimensions and detailed info on the difference between the Willys station wagon and a CJ5.

So I'm going to sit down with a can of glue some tape and try to piece my original glove box back together good enough to get a pattern.

The three tricky areas I believe are going to be trying to staple it together.

And trying to find the glove box clips. I know that they're out there I've seen cardboard glove boxes on eBay with the correct Clips on them. But nobody's giving up the information on where to obtain them.

Also I'll need to find a hollow point punch large enough to make the two holes that are on the bottom panel at the rear, a drill bit would merely tear up the material.

I went to an auto upholstery supply place and bought cardboard door panel material it's the same material used for the glove box and it's the same thickness perfect match.

I realize that the Jeep Community is more into 4-wheeling rock climbing than they are into restoration.

And I do understand that the Jeep it's not like a Ford or a Chevy or Studebaker. so restoration is not a priority for the Jeep Community. I can't really comment on the Willys wagons though, looks like the wagon people are more into restoring them then they are for the CJ fives.

My original one has a cutout for the arm/catch on the right side and it is 6" deep

 

Yep. Installed them on my 3B but the doors are on the verticals to minimize water problems. I just extended the tub floor into the wheel wells and boxed it all off. That made much bigger toolboxes than the MB/GPW versions. Downside? Makes enlarging wheel openings a bit problematic.

The left side has the fuel tank filler assembly going through it but you can still get a lot of stuff in there.

 

If you can specify the years of the vehicles in question or better yet part numbers we may be able to help.

Paul Barry @ Willys America said that the wagon is different, and would not say what the different is.
All he would say is that he has plastic ones.
As fare as year I would think 1955 to 75 CJ-5 would be the same? in the wagons I have no idea
Maybe all years for the wagon?
