Which Pertronix Flamethrower coil should I be looking for? 1.5 ohm, 3 ohm... I've already converted to Pertronix in my distributor, but now I'm looking for a better coil. But I'm confused by all the different ohm ratings.

    Thanks

The coil resistance affects the amount of current that the trigger sees. If I had a Pertronix igniter in my distributor, I would look to Pertronix for advice on a coil. But generally, the higher the resistance, the more current limited the coil is and the gentler the discharge is. The ballast resistor also limits the discharge current, and that is in series with the coil resistance. Do you have a ballast resistor?

Pertronix doesn't use a ballast resistor in there conversion. However they say if you choose to you may leave the ballest resistor in . 3.0 ohm coil recommended for six cylinder engine.

Thanks everyone. Guess I'll go with the 40511 (oil filled).
