My 73 dash came with this hole open. Can anyone tell me what is supposed to go there, in the empty hole directly above the steering column cutout?
    thanks in advance

    Usually it has a plug.

The smaller holes were drilled by a PO.

that's where my window washer fluid button is. Is that stock on a 74?

Factory equipment for a '74 has the bus wheel and a horn button in the middle of the steering wheel. Apparently Wally's steering wheel needs a horn button on the dash.

Could be the correct location for a windshield washer button on a '71 or earlier, but the original question was about a '73. A '73 will be like a '74, or my '75. If you own an earlier Jeep, the Early forum may be better able to answer your question.

oh, and the black knob on my dash below and between the wiper and light switches (above the data plate) is a delay-wiper control. i added it over 20 years ago, bought at napa.

my washer spray is a manual lever, located to the right of the heater controls.

mine didn't have instructions, either. i used a multimeter to figure it out.
