Absolutely! Depends what your goals are. My desires in a vehicle line up well to mechanical stuff (diesel and gas tbh) but doesn't mean EFI isn't a perfect fit for a different need.

I see what you mean. I have been doing alot of reading on what it takes. I see what you mean though. I didnt know there was any mech vw motors that were decent/ availible in the us.

  4. 1.6 motors were mechanical and not rare, but you definitely want a turbo... the mechanical 1.9 with a turbo would be the ultimate but they are unicorns.

How bout adapters? I can get alh to gm. Are those adapters the same?
Was there a mechanical 1.9 na that could be converted to turbo?

also if we are derailing this too far we can swich to pm. Or text as i have your info from a previous converstion about a mercedes jeep i was thinking of buying.

  6. All the 8 valve 4cyl Vw engines have the same bolt pattern so that’s nice. 1.6/1.9

I’d do a Kubota over a 1.6TD but the ALH had a broad power curve for a diesel, which has appeal.

There were mechanical 1.9 TDs in the EU in delivery vans. While very rare in the states, they weren’t rare overseas.

You can buy a turn key pump. That being said, you can get a whole runner Kubota for the cost of said pump (keeping things in perspective).

ya those lil kubotas are real expensive here as well as the adapterplate overland is very proud of them

  9. What diesel do you have in your Jeep?

    2.5L TD Mahindra (Roxor)

I got a Kubota to put in a CJ.

I’ve had a OM617 auto XJ as well.

I think I saw a guy on youtube making some crazy power with a roxor TD (I feel like I remember 200hp). I would love to see someone swap one in a cj6 while documenting it thoroughly haha

I'm new to this forum. I have a 1966 CJ5. In looking through this thread I've found you did exactly what I'm wanting to do. I have a chance to get a Mk4 Volkswagen TDI BEW 1.9l. Would this engine work as well as yours to do the same thing?
