Sorry, I asked this same question in the first forum, but maybe it fits this forum beter. Does anyone have any evidence of the duration jeep used 2 piece windshields in early cj5s for the domestic market? Many sources state early jeeps apparently came w/ 2 piece 'shields, but through what serial number? My '54 cj5 was 935th to roll off the line and it has a one piece original shield. Does anyone have a '54-'55 with either a 1 or 2 piece glass, and if so what serial number??

My 60 has a two piece but it is the venting style.

    Wasn't the 2 piece a M38A1 windshield????

The two piece ventilating windshield was and option, so there is no from and to serial number, however, when they went to the bottom mount wipers in '68 it probably wan't available any more.

How's the weather out there in Arizona?

I have a 62 CJ-5 I would like to switch to a 2 piece windshield. Would the glass and other necessary parts from an M-38A1 fit my windshield frame, or would I need the complete windshield frame and all? Also would the complete windshield fit?

Wilson, the windshield frames are different.

If I understand what you're asking you need an M38A1 WS Frame, complete. Just swap that out for your single piece frame.

Thanks Stan, I will hunt an M38A1 windshield, I do like the classy looks of the 2 piece I saw one on a CJ-6 once and at the time I had thought it probably form a M38A1. I didnt know then that they were an option on the CJ models. I have another jeep question but will post it above.

FWIW -- if you're anywhere 6' tall or over you'll have a tough time seeing out with the ventilating w/s. The w/s framing hangs lower yet than the top-mount wiper frame.

All ventilating (from the factory) cj5/6 windshields were split.

However, not all split windshields were ventilating - m38A1 weren't.

So, if you are thinking about an M38A1 windshield frame as a way to get a ventilating w/s, it doesn't work that way.
