Ford Wheels For D25/27?

I have some wheels off a 78 F150 4X4 that fit over the hubs. It my be a year to year thing.

 

The F100 2x4 wheels have the right bolt pattern but too small a center hole. Cut-out centers from these were commonly used in the day for very wide rims, but the web between the center hole and lug holes tends to crack. I'd avoid them.

The webs on the link above look too wide to me. Look at a Jeep wheel and compare. It has a folded edge and IIRC it's only like 3/8" wide.

The Ford 4x4 rims may be ok. I kinda think the Ford (and Jeep) hubs for the D44 are a little smaller in diam than the CJ hubs. Pretty sure Ford went to a metric pattern at some point though, so you'd also have to watch for that.

There are lots of different aftermarket wheels available. IIRC my 7"x15" for the CJ-6 were only ca $60 each. Check Summit.

 

Those wheels have the smaller center hole, they won't fit a Jeep, at least on the front. I don't think any of the factory Ford wheels will fit over a Jeep hub, at least none I've ever seen (I was a Ford parts man for 15 years)
Tim mentioned the metric bolt pattern, that switch occurred for the 97 model year.

Suzuki Samurai wheels fit the CJ.
As for Ford rims, '55 - '70 half-ton rims should go right on there. '60's Scout rims.

If you had to ream out the center hole, then you were mounting rims from after 1971. Or from a Dodge 1/2 ton.

 

So I was a bit worried having bought some Ford f150 4x4 early 90 rims. I have not installed them yet, but I checked and they fit fine.

I have 5 of them they are quite a nice wheel.

 

Those are what I'm buying next. I like them a lot. I contacted the manufacturer to see if I could buy a set that was not powder coated (in bare steel). They would not oblige. Gonna have to paint them if I get them. Not sure if I should have them blasted first or just sand and paint over the powder coat.

 

I'd blast them first. Never know how good they prepped the powder coat. The Goodyear commercial tire center that serviced the city used to take our wheels and blast and repost them when the salt hit yo them too bad.

There was a thread several years ago about rally wheels from Wheel Vintique with the right lug pattern and center hole. The person put them on a flat fender and painted them the same color (drab) as the body and they looked great, obviously without a center cap or trim ring.

The Ford wheels from Wheel Vintiques are interesting. I could never find them to buy when I was looking. I would also want to know if they have a 4.25"+ center hole and will they fit over 11" brakes. Also removing the powder coating so you can paint would be fun.

 

Aerosol (or any good chemical type) paint stripper make pretty quick work of powder coating.
