Our tires are 20+ yrs old and with 400 miles on them getting replaced. Looking for a MT style tread.
Renegade II stock american racing d slots and no spacers. h78x15 originally.
I noticed that at some point oversized tires slightly rubbed some paint off the rear inner wheel well.
Researching I found this chart entry for compatible sizes:
    1960's 845-15 28.6" Dia
    1970's H78-15 28.3" Dia
    Metric 225-75R15 28" Dia

Seems today there is very limited choices. In another thread I listed 3, here's the specs:
Coker Tire STA Traxion H78-15 (29.2" tall)
    Super Swamper SAM-07 H78-15 (28.6" tall) also available L78-15 (30"tall)
    700-15 Deestone 8 ply (30"tall)
I live in an area with limited tire choices. I won't be driving the jeep other than weekend excursions so radial vs bias is really not a factor. I will be running off road in mountainous nor cal and run MT on other 4x I own that have more tire selaction.
I'd like to hear what others or running on similar rig without fitment issues, brand and size appresiated in your response. Really surprised that som many parts for such a common vehicle are being phased out. I have kept in mind the limited usage and commonly modified.

Are you going to order them and have them shipped to you? I assume you are saying that locally you can't get what you really want.

Not unusual, not a big deal.

    Yep, stock tires rub there.

I can order them from most tire dealers, or my brother-in-law owns a repair shop with tire mounting and speed balancing equip.
I seldom like to buy something I can't see and touch. I may defer buying until I plan a trip to sacramento or reno.

STA tires are a good bias ply tire (formally called Mcreary, made in PA) I have a set of thier 750-15 NDCC on my 64 model,so far so good!

I've driven the same Jeep with bias ply and radial tires, and the radials make a world of difference.
I'll never run bias plys again.
235/75r15 is equivalent to the old L78-15 & makes a good tire on a stock height CJ.

I'm running a bigger size than listed below. Sounds like you would consider either bias or radial. You'll have to do some spec.list matching/formatting!

    BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 (a radial tire)
Size Diameter Width Rim Range Measured Rim Tread Depth Load Range Max Load Max psi Weight Revs/Mile
    LT 215/75R15 27.9" 8.5" 5.5-7" 6" 18/32" C 1765/1610 lbs 50 psi 35.5 lbs 746

Yes, open to either bias or radial. I looked at the km2's, run them on my k10 but was trying to avoid white lettering. All our rigs run black-out, jeep is too spartan would see the white showing.

Just mount the letters in. No self respecting Jeep owner should ever run tires with white letters out.:D

Nope, white letters should always be out.
    Unless you have black wheels.....:)

lol, I have 4 vehicles with letters in. With the jeep they would be painfully apparent.
I gave up looking for a stock replacement double line whitewall.
Now, about the black wheels. In these parts they are the wheel of choice of the growers of green, often times seen on entirely bed lined vehicles.

From one Renegade II owner to another, here’s a suggestion and something to look at for your D slots.

Hankook Dynapro MT, I’m running 31x10.5 on my American Racing Outlaw 15x8 rims, but you can get smaller. I live in small town too, ordered, shipped to local Walmart (June 2017), $144/tire $9 mount balance/tire.

If I was to be driving in wet/snow at lot I would of gone Falcon Wildpeak MT, $150/tire mount, balanced, alignment at different tire dealer.

Just some more options to look at, good luck and can’t wait to see pics.

I looked at these last night at Wal-Mart for the wife's jeep. Highly recommend them visually. And they were 80 bucks cheaper than similar wrangled tires

I agree that the 31-10.50x15 fit very nicely on the 15x7 D -slots. I have the stock steering and have no problem on the pavement. On the sand w/tires aired down to 12 psi and hubs locked in that takes some dedication. I think for a stock cj you can't beat the 235-75x15's. Had them on a '67 cj5 and it was a dream to drive.Yes I do have Saginaw p/s on the '69 cj5 w/ 33-12.50x15 so I can compare both worlds.

It's good to hear I can go up a size if needed. Over the years I've stuck with skinnies as I don't do bogging or sand. I am concerned with potential tire rub if I went up in size due to mountian trails. I'm also looking for side steps for ease of my wife loading up.

Don't even consider the Deestone tires.
Would you really want a Chinese tire on an old Jeep ?
Besides I here the wear out very quickly.

I wonder what the set is on your D slots ?
    15 x 6" rim width right ?
Is the wheel disk centerlined to the rim section ?
