Body Mount Hole Size Question

Discussion in 'Intermediate CJ-5/6/7/8' started by 74CJ5 Renegade, Jan 2, 2018.

  1. I am installing the radiator / grill on my CJ. The front grill body mount (where it goes through the frame) is about 1.5 inches wide while the hole is about 1.25 inches wide. I am no wizard at math but something aint right.

Is the mount width the correct size? Any thoughts?

I looked in the factory service manual , it looks like part of the bushing is sandwiched between. I think you can find. It on line.

  3. Can you explain that? I have the factory manual and have taken a look.

It appears that the raised section which is 1.5 inches wide should fit through the hole that is 1.25 inches....

the nub on the rubber should let the bigger part sit flat on the frame sometimes you can shave the edge off of the rubber with some sandpaper.

The original hole that the radiator mount passed through in the front cross member had expanded out significantly several inches due to rust to the point that I had to cut back to good metal and weld in a patch. Now I need to re-drill the hole through it. Can someone send me the measurement of where it was located originally? (1972 cj5)

I solved the problem above. I didn't realize there was a guide hole in both to help line things up.
