Like many CJ6 owner I find the soft top selection lame. I don't like the tiger tops, I don't like snaps and the windows don't zip out.

I had a CJ5 super top "fast backed" at one time and it worked great, however the need for a family style cage made no longer unusable. So CSP ended up with it, whether he'll ever get it mounted and used on his CJ6....well that's a different story all together :)

After getting rained on a few times last wheeling season I'm contemplation options. We bought an "emergency top" for an unlimited and modded it for quick down pours, but that was a PIA. Works in a pinch, but limited to 30 mph but get's it done better than a tarp.

Options I've thought of: 1)Modify another CJ5 top. 2)Go to an upholstery shop and start from scratch, not even sure that's a viable option, but maybe they could make a frameless style which would be great. 3)Has anyone tried modding a CJ8 top to a CJ6? Yes windshield difference, but that seems easy enough to swap. The tub is the same width, but longer and it seems like taking out length is easier than adding.

    Thanks in advance!

I made a canvas top witout doors and I glued a plastic window, it is very strong with heavy canvas like tarpaulin for trucks.
I use the roll over protection as a support. A pro truck specialist can do this easily.
Then I bought a full top in canvas with doors but never used it, it is complex for the doors and I prefer to put the top away easily when sunshine comes.
I also have a hard top I don't use it now, I prefer the 'bikini'.
All depends if you want doors or not. It is more complex with doors, need to spend some money.

I had the tiger top. I don't know if they are still made this way but my sides unzipped and rolled back. I didn't really like the enclosed feel in Texas in July. My wife sewed up a home made safari top. I liked that pretty well because it doesn't get that cold here.

I lost a lot of photos in the photobucket transition but here is the home made top under construction.

I bought a Tiger Top a few years back and it has been pretty good. I tore it on some tree roots sticking out of a dirt bank and sewed it by hand. Not the tops fault though. It has been fairly quiet, but I remember when it was new, it was a real bear to get pulled down to get the snaps on. It's still pretty tight.

I do agree, I wish they made more top selection for the CJ-6, such as a Super Top. They are a nice top, what with the rail type attachment rather than snaps, and nice weatherstrip, and zip out windows.
