Does having the front grill out help with stabbing it back in? Fenders off help?

Fenders off would definitely help, can't argue there. :)

Get an engine hoist with a leveling attachment too, those are a big help.

Not on a Jeep but on my old 51 International Harvester I've done it both ways. Leaving the front end clip on was a real time saver and I didn't have to mess with rusted bolts for the sheet metal. The one plus I saw with the clip off was not having to elevate the engine nearly as high to get it out which is a little easier on the nerves than having that much weight way up in the air swinging around on an engine hoist. I think on a Jeep I'd at least remove the grill as they sit pretty high to start with.

Grill is pretty much made to pop out. On the militaries they are even hinged.

THIS! Otherwise those top two bolts will take you an hour or more to do, and make you question human progress.

I would take the fenders and grill off if you're using a cherry picker.

When I pulled the motor out of my Jeepster, I took out the grill and radiator and left the fenders on, it was really easy to get the motor out and back in.
