Is the correct finish for the bezel ring chrome, black, or aluminum?
A lot of the online pics I see look chrome but the one that came with the vehicle when I got it is black painted aluminum.

Black painted is all I've ever seen for the early years. Now I don't know if the Tux's were different or not.

Well mine was sure no Tux, so black it shall be.
Since I'm replacing the dash panel anyway, might as well make the gauge look nice.
    Thanks!

I know that the '72 has a black ring, and Jeep changed to a chrome ring in 1973 - one of a handful of differences '72 to '73. The black carried over from earlier production. This continued through the end of the line, AFAIK. The replacement speedometers are all chrome, again AFAIK. I expect quite a few earlys have replacement speedometers that are chrome.

Mine does. Has the turn signal indicators too. I was sent the wrong one by mistake but I liked the way it looks so went ahead and kept it.

FWIW, & in the context of the original question it ain't worth much, Tonk's King-Seely silver face speedo had a chrome ring, however I've also seen them with black rings as well.

On my 64 model, it appears to be black painted pot metal!

The '64-up Tuxes were black painted, as were the Cj5/6 from the late '50s through to the AMC era. Thanks Tim on when AMC started the chrome rim. I know my old '72 was black rimmed.
The '62-'63 MKlll Tux had a chrome rim, and I have seen a rusted chrome rim on a '55ish King Seeley.
For Teletech's '67, black was original.
