1971 Dauntless V6 Temperature Sensor / Sending Unit?

    1971 CJ5 with believed to be original power train. Over the last couple of years as I have been working on it to get back as a weekend driver, encountered issues with parts not matching what it has vs. what the retailers suggest.

    Most recent - temperature gauge not working, pulled sensor from back passenger side of intake, ordered new one on RockAuto only to find it much smaller than what I pulled out? ACDELCO 2133199. I went to O'Reilly's last night and their system says BWD125 - again - much smaller.

    Any input / suggestions welcome.

    I think your going to have to just use a bushing reducer . try and get a brass one . most auto stores sell dorman products and they would most likely have what your looking for . as to will it read right is anyone's guess . when it comes to temperate sending unit

    The Delco number is still good - ACDELCO 2133199 Temperature Sender / Sensor | RockAuto - it's probably a GM number too. Seven digits is typical. If this part is too small in diameter for the existing hole in the manifold, you will have to use a bushing. Parts suppliers/manufacturers will routinely substitute and eliminate variants to keep the number of stocking numbers at a minimum. It should have the right characteristics, aside from the overall diameter and thread size.

    Is this a v6? For mine, the temp sensor is in the front of the manifold on the passenger side. Right behind the thermostat housing. WOuldn't guarantee mine is original location either....

    I believe you can put them in a couple different spots.

    Yeah, the temp sender seems to have moved around even from 66 to 67, from what I've seen on here. Or possibly related to emissions packages, the existence of a dashpot, etc. Not really sure the circumstances but there are definitely intake manifolds with different layouts.

    Realizing this thread is old I am commenting anyway, I as well am encountering issues finding a temp sending unit for my factory original SW gauge. As to the location of the sending unit, when I purchased my new 71 CJ5 (Dauntless V6) back in 70, it did have the smog pump system and the sending unit is located up front on passenger side near thermostat housing. When I do a search on rock auto for the sending unit, all of them comment for a "light" which is weird because they all have the SW gauges not a "warning light"...eh.
