Looking for some advice. 1971 Cj5 with Dauntless v6. Been sitting along time... will run but carburetor is bad shape. Not sure it can be saved. Advice on where I can get a used one or what interchanges?

Lots of discussion on rebuilding carbs here.

    What carb? Rochester 2G?

I encourage you to look up Mikes Caburator and follow his videos (below).

When rebuilding mine I didn't know I could remove the power valve with a screw driver until I was almost finished with the rebuild. I'm glad I did, there was crud trapped under it. The float wasn't set to specs either. Seven months prior I had disassembled and cleaned the carb but it always had the same problem you're describing unless I drove with partial choke on.

Do yourself a favor and completely tear down the carb, buy an Ultra Sonic Cleaner for $80 at Harbor Freight and clean every bit of the carb.

Do another favor and watch these 2 rebuild videos even if you know what your doing. I stood at my computer and followed along bit by bit. I can't believe the transformation in how my carb functions! I just bolted it on and only had to adjust the idle screw because it was backed off when pulling the carb.

    Part 1 of 2

    Part 2 of 2

I was able to set the mixer screws to what was suggested in the video and bolt on and go! I want to say 1 and a half turns out from seated? My timing was set so a little idle adjustment and it runs like a top.

I used Mike's videos and also ordered a rebuild kit from him as well. I was able to remove the power valve without a prying it off - just pushed it in and out quite a few times and it popped out (got that from Mike's videos). I also got new idle mix screws as well as jets (accel pump was included with kit).

If you feel it must be replaced - not sure if Mike's has replacement carbs as I would check with him first, but could also check with
    Rochester Carburetors

I looked into it when I first got my CJ...a little cleaning and tuning is all it took for mine. I would also guess you might be able to post a wanted to buy add here in the classifieds - someone who has moved on to 4 barrel or FI might be willing to part ways.

I have dealt with quadrajetparts.com and have been very happy with their website and parts. Be sure to polish your accelerator pump well and use a good quality pump. If you are uncomfortable with a carb rebuild then a good reman carb is your best bet. I love my 2jet.

This is extremely important. Also polishing the piston bore for the power valve.

I agree with Mikes Carburetor and his parts, link on Fockers post. Make sure you order parts by the number stamped on the side of your carb. I ordered a kit by year, make , and model from auto zone and the accelerator pump was wrong. I could not figure why it stumbled on acceleration until I posted my problem on this site and the consensus was the accelerator pump. I ordered a new one from Mike by the stamped number and my problem was solved.
