Wishing I was at that part of my CJ. But I guess I have to go thru the 10 years put off too, unfortunately.

Looked under the jeep this morning. Got depressed. Oil pan leaks. Was going to change the oil after the first hundred miles. Looks like another new pan gasket is going in. Good news, all other leak issues are fixed. Mounted a spare tire today. I think 235/75/R15 is the biggest tire that will fit on a side mount spare carrier. Had to space it out 3/4" to get 1/4" clearance from the body.

I tried mounting my 235/85/16 and needs more. How did you space it out?

Great looking Jeep! nice work. Is your trailer hitch home built or after market?
Jeeps don't leak they just slowly change there oil.

I got some 1/2-20 nuts at the hardware store and screwed them on as spacers. They are 1/2" thick plus the 1/4" to the plate when they bottom out. Pic does'nt show it but I had to trim the wood block that keeps it from vibrating to 1/2" thick.

I made the hitch. Wanted to have a receiver rather than the original tow bar.

Started to mock up the ice chest carrier. 1950's Cronstrom Cronco cooler to hold the beverages. Should have a chance to work on it next weekend.

    Looks good.

Nice idea with the turnbuckle hold down.

I don't trust bungees, the turn buckles hold it place solidly and I can open it without undoing bungees.

Finished making a bracket for an altimeter. PO gave this to me with the jeep. He was going to mount it in the dash, thank god he never did. Made a mount that fit in existing holes in the bottom lip of the dash. The altimeter came home with him from WWII, he was in the navy on carriers. He told me it was out of an F4F Wildcat they stripped after it crashed on deck. Internet research shows it was common in F4F's. Will come in handy while wheeling.

That's a neat addition. Is it somewhat accurate?

That would have to be pre-set at a known altitude , most likely at an Airport near you............some early altimeters also allowed for adding barometric pressure but short of that you would still have to know several other things like temperature , barometric pressure and water grains to get to adjusted or density altitude to know exactly how high the adjusted air your motor is breathing really is.......

It is very accurate when you take into account all the conditions Tarry99 mentioned. I know my elevation at home to start a trip, and adjust at known elevations, but usually keeps me within a hundred feet. If I know the barometric pressure in milibars at a know elevation it will maintain accuracy to 20ft. I'm not flying, so not concerned about accidentally running into the ground. The trails around here go up to 8000' just 30 miles from my place.

Got the final pieces to complete the restoration. Took the artwork to my printer/graphic artist and had the decals made that I couldn't find. The Cronco decal is for my vintage aluminum cooler that I carry on the rack I built. I'll post pics once I have them in place on the Jeep. The rest of my thread got photo bucketed.
