My glove box has a slot for a key to lock it, but my ignition key does not fit. In 58, were they keyed to the same key or different? My ignition key is a little worn so I'm thinking about pulling the switch and taking it to a locksmith to rekey it and hopefully get a glove box key matching?

I don't think they ever matched for any years. Doors, tops and glove boxes used the same key.

A locksmith can make short work of what you want done. I personally wouldn't lock it...A prowler can do a lot of damage wanting to see what you've got locked up.

Tonk had a matching ignition/glove box lock, which is interesting as Tonk would have had a floor starter switch originally & the switch was for key start.

I went to get a glove box key made, the guy said that they are two different types of locks. He made a gloves box key for me and it does not go into my ignition switch very well. My ignition is well worn, but I don't want to change it, it has a tab that holds it straight in the dash.

Rick, your switch should be held in the dash by a chrome hex nut. Many aftermarket switches have a knurled retaining nut. Does you key have "Jeep" embossed?
All the ignition switches I have seen with the spring loaded "start" feature do not have a matching glovebox key. As Howard pointed out, the early CJ5s with the floor starter could have a matched key for the ignition and glovebox, though glovebox locks in this era were fairly uncommon.

It is Donny, but the 67 dash I used has a tab on it that holds the switch from turning in the hole, that the 64 Tux dash didn't. I would have to file the tab off to change the ignition switch. I didn't use the Tux dash, didn't want the column shift, although I kept all the parts so it could be put back in if I chose to.
