I am hoping to swap my 72 CJ5 304V8 into a nice 76 CJ5 with the 4.0 6 cylinder. Any known issues with this swap? Would prefer to use the T150 3 speed in the 76 rather than T15 in the 72.

Thanks rejeep. My 72 is a rust bucket but motor is strong. The 76 is clean with no rust but have to have a V8.

I think the only changes are, changing one motor mount to the v8 mount, and running the fuel line down the opposite frame rail.

If you have to use different motor mount holes in the frame make sure they are backed by tubing between the C-channel and inner plate. My frame has extra holes that dont have tube backing.

The T-15 is stronger, but you can use the T-150 if you want. Almost everything changes for the 1976 model year, so I predict it will not be 100% bolt up. However, the 304 was offered in 1976, so if a part like the frame tower from the '72 does not fit, you can find the equivalent part for '76 and later and it will work.

having done this swap before i am 99.9% sure its 100% bolt in..
nothing needs to be fabricated, and as timgr mentioned, it was an option so the bolt in parts are available..

having done this swap in the past. One motor mount is different, cant remember which side but they just bolt on anyway using factory holes, at least the 76 and up frames had the holes already there. The 6cy carbs fuel inlet is on the opposite side of the engine then the v8, so you either have to route your fuel line around the engine or reroute on the opposite frame rail, either will work. But that's about it as far as changes.
