Cabin Air Flow With Bikini Top.

I'm going to remove the hard top from my CJ. I plan to use a bikini top for the summer. I'd like to find something to cut down on the buffeting that comes in through the side. Does anyone make a wing flap or something to attach to the windshield frame to cut down the air flow that enters the cabin? Thanks!

Never heard of any for jeeps but they were a common add-on for cars back in the day.

I personally never found it that bad without a top on but now i have a venting windshield & with that open a crack at the bottom it's a nice straight breeze.

Seems like when I had a Bikini top on my Jeep last that most of the airflow actually came from behind me rather that from the sides.

I agree with Zoomer. The wind comes in from the back, but the only time I notice it is if it's rained recently and the road spray is coming in with it. Try your bikini top, you may decide it's fine as is.

Yup. This is where a wind jammer, as they are called, comes in handy. I made one for my JEEP out of an old tonneau cover from a pick up truck.

I suppose there is a reason I have a squeegee in my jeeps. I've gone to carrying one in my Volvo as well.

Yep, had to wipe off the inside of the windshield many times...... highway speeds in the rain is interesting!

Scraping ice, while driving, off the inside is a fond memory I have of my "topless winter."

I guess the airflow will be significantly different with the top off than the way it acts with the top on and doors off. I will be interested to see how it works. On my convertible, I have a screen behind the seats that, keeps the air from swirling back. I was thinking the top would dump the air off further back and minimize that effect. I'm a little obsessive about fixing things that annoy me.

You'll also notice more exhaust smell...........when travelling.......It's the Low pressure area created behind the Jeep that brings it back forward.

Get yourself a pair of driving goggles and fasten your windshield down to the hood.

Same exact sensation as riding a motorcycle.

The goggles are to keep the local constabulary off your 6.

Not legal here in PA. I would do this otherwise.

Bet it says something about the windshield for eye protection. That is why the goggles. Do you have helmet laws for the motorcycles?

was stopped by police shortly after moving back to va . said the reason I was stopped was he could not see inspection sticker or city sticker
never drove with it down after that . I would think . being it has antique plates on it now it would be legal . no stickers on windshield

PA inspection sticker is affixed to the windshield. They think you're trying to hide it when you fold it down. DAHIK. :susp:

Helmet laws were rescinded several years ago. It has to with the authorities being able to see the state inspection sticker. In PA, on a motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, the inspection sticker must be placed in the lower left corner of the windshield, in plain view. Period. No exception. Obviously, with the windshield down, the sticker is not visible.

I got pulled over for this many years ago. Johnny was cool and let me go but, I had to put the windshield back up before I pulled away.

Think we are drifting away from the original topic maybe. Sorry mods.

I always tried to get my inspection mechanic to stick the sticker to a plexiglass plate I could bolt to my dash, but he wouldn't go for it.
