looking into either off the shelf or perhaps a custom storage solution for the CJ6...

take out rolls around in the back and spills...

I guess this could be as simple as a milk crate, but something aesthetically pleasing would be nice too...
and IMHO wooden objects have no place on a vehicle..

Do you have a back seat? You can move the rear legs to the front brackets and position the seat at about the same distance from the front seats as in the CJ-5. Then you have about 3' of clear space between the back of the seat and the tailgate. I am not really keen on "built in" solutions, so I would look for something like the Rubbermaid Action-Packer for not-soft camp gear. Action Packer Patrol Box Ideas - Scoutmastercg.com and http://www.rubbermaid.com/en-US/actionpacker® I'd lash it down with some strategically placed low-profile lashing points. Then I'd use a cargo net to hold all the soft items more-or-less in place.

I have plans to one day build a pull out drawer storage unit to mount under the rear seat. I will remove the rear seat mounting brackets and mount the seat on top of the drawer box. There are boxes like this commercially available but building my own is more my style.

I screwed a plastic packer box in the back of my jeep. It's about as wide as the front seat and goes almost to the back.. Leaves a nice spaace that my doors and windows can be stored in.. I attached a piece of carpet to the lid so the dog doesn't eject. I have no back seat

I've always thought a 32" jobsite box would make a neat, secure storage trunk if you need to actually carry something of value.

That's what I've been using, it doesn't work too bad, but it's damned noisy, from the handles and lid banging around, I've done some foam around things, and it's better though.

I think some nice custom sized aluminum locking top boxes with perhaps some aluminum pouches on the outside front / rear that could house various slim loose Items...........inside maybe a removable top tray and dividers below. I have a bunch of Ideas in my head and If I was farther along on my CJ6 project I would show you in real time.
