Using JK bolt on hitch on 2"x4" tube bumper

    Hey all, I have been wanting to put a hitch on my jeep, but have been stuck on the best way to do it. I have bumpers that use 2x4 - 3/16" rectangular steel.

    I have noticed the JK bolt on hitch here:

    If the JK rear cross member is 2" thick, then this seems like it would work quite nicely and wouldn't require me to cut the bumper and weld, which is something I am trying to avoid.

    Does anyone know what the JK rear crossmember size is? Any thoughts on this approach?

    Looks like it bolts through the bumper lots o holes holes equal rust

    This is true. I knew I would paint the holes with POR 15 and I already sprayed in a coating that bike builders use in steel frames to prevent rusting (those tubes are butted and insanely thin, so even the smallest amount of rust would be dangerous).

    Regardless of rust, I would love to know what the JK crossmember measures to.

    Does anyone have one they could please measure for me?

    The rear crossmember that hitch bolts to is 3"

    If the x-member metal is that thin I'd be leery of using it as the sole support for a hitch.

    Pretty sure he was talking about the Motorcycle Tubing, Howard. Not his crossmember.

    termin8ed, thanks for the measurement.

    Howard and SFaulken, I was actually referring to bicycles. Since we are talking about it, more specifically, cyclocross bikes which see a lot of mud, rain, and some snow, during racing in the fall/winter months.

    At any rate, if that cross member is 3" then it won't work as my bumper is 2".

    If you Google "bolt on 2" receiver" you'll get lots of hits.
    Not something for heavy duty towing, but ought to be fine for anything you'd want to pull with a CJ...
