I'll run this one till she gets put away for winter. Don't want the NY salt eating her frame. Next spring when she comes out to play I'll have a nice newly reconditioned, proper 2G waiting for her. Plus I'm curious to see what the pertronix does. I never set dwell. Just gapped the points.

I still have all of the old tune up stuff in the garage and the Pertronix set up was worth the $ on my 185K mile V6 motor in the 3B.

Did you determine that there is vacuum hose being used and not fuel hose? What I meant was that manifold vacuum can suck fuel hose closed thereby pinching off the vacuum supply to your distributor advance and maybe that was messing with the engine.

I didn't look. The advance works as it should. If it was collapsing wouldn't it not advance?

If it's advancing as it should then I'm sure it's fine.

Does the hose off the back of the carb go to a PCV valve? If it is jus plumbed to the valve cover its a huge vacuum leak which would account for your symptoms.

Does it need the pvc valve or can I just plug it and get a breather. I don't know what the valve does!

Correct way is with the PCV vale, which is a metering valve. Enough restriction built in so it only takes a little bit of vacuum to ventilate the crankcase and not create a vacuum loss as Alan F. mentioned.

From this thread - Link - V6 Air Cleaner Options

Well I ended up making my own spacer for $3 out of an exhaust pipe connector from AutoZone. The parts guy thought I was a weirdo. I had my air cleaner in hand but was playing around in the exhaust area. I love one offs!

It's not pretty but it works great. I used my grinder and a 4-1/2" cut off wheel.

I basically cut slits all the way around, folded every other tab one in and out. I cut off the outer tabs to make a lip for the air cleaner to sit on.

The bottom of the air cleaner housing.

The inner tabs snap inside perfectly...It actually makes a snap sound.

    Plenty of clearance.

Don't do both of these at the same time.

Look in the pic I posted...You can do what I did. I have the PCV valve installed but not plumbed...No issues.

A lot of advice to rebuild the carb is posted or to check/replace the accelerator pump or check balls. A common response is 'it's fairly new accelerator pump". Counter response..."Check it anyway"...Final response..."It was the accelerator pump after all". So that being said...

Pull the carb, clean it and check the accelerator pump.

I love it. Great idea and great job. I'll be doing this. So having the pvc valve just there and not plumbed doesn't hurt anything?

What size exhaust adapter did you use???

I don't remember...I think it will vary depending on your air cleaner. Take it to the parts house with you.

No PCV valve is fine if you want to go back to how they vented the crankcase in the 1920s.

It's such a simple, effective and low-maintenance system, why would you eliminate it? You need to vent the crankcase vapors somewhere, and if you leave the crankcase open to the atmosphere you admit dirt and moisture and potentially vent oil mist - not good for your engine and messy. Lower emissions is a free bonus - Jeep was using a PCV system long before it was required by emissions standards.

I left it!! Just tightened everything up with some hose clamps!

After giving this a ton of thought,I'm wondering if my stalling out when I slow down could be a bad power valve. Not allowing the bowl to fill properly at speed and starving it for fuel. Any thoughts? When I put her away for winter I'm going to pull the carb, take it all apart and soak it! Can't hurt. She sat for a while so she could be all gummed up!

Might be the opposite - running too rich will hardly show at speed, but can flood/choke out an engine at idle. You did say you were giving it half choke too.

Installed Pertronix ignition, timed her up and drove her. No more stalling out when I brake. Who knows but I'll take it. Now on to cosmetic stuff. Thanks all!!

Sounds like maybe it just needed the points cleaned and set.
