I used mine without a regulator.

How ironic. I had a new one on the shelf because the first one I had (on the CJ2A) the casting broke around where the check valves seat. I had it waranteed through the distributor, but I didn't trust them after that so I bought a new Carter pump from Rock Auto.....The guy told me he had sold hundreds of these, and this was the first issue he had seen.

Well crap....What to do. I kind of hate to not use it since I spent the money...:)

Since you already have it I would install it. I'm interested in the results because I do feel like I should have regulators on mine. If yours works good then I'll probably get a couple of those and try again. Who knows, maybe Summit gets the better ones and Kaiser Willys gets the rejects. ;)

I put the regulator on my Solex and run it at 2#. Works ok on Eeyore.

I've also got one that the casting broke out around the check valve seat. The check valve had actually come loose and I tried to gently, very gently tap it in place and it just broke out.

    What regulator do you have?

I'm thinking about ordering another Carter (or whatever) and taking this Crown junk off of my son's Jeep....I hate having parts I don't trust, especially since he will be driving this thing out in the woods.

Is the one you got for the 2A built like OEM instead of the dual chamber?

    Yes. No glass bowl either.

OK, so it isn't like the original. The one that was on the 2A when I bought it looked just like that. Still works, but the pivot pin is loose and was leaking oil. I could fix that, but I figured a new pump would be a good idea.

I wonder what the quality is like on that one? I wouldn't mind having a glass bowl pump on the 2A.

I wonder if it really is that same pump you get when you order? I think that is the same part number Crown uses for their two chamber junk pump.

I wonder about the quality too. I like the glass bowl, I can look and see what's going on with the pump and the fuel. Reliability is why I started experimenting with the electric pump.

I did install an old sediment bowl/ sintered bronze filter, so I can see the fuel there....

I like that. To me that's equivalent to the glass bowl on the fuel pump so I'd say you're good to go.
