Finally, a good clutch cable!

One of the most frustrating things about old Jeeps is the lack of quality replacement parts.
For years I've struggled with the crappy Crown clutch cables for my '70 CJ-5.
Well, I think I finally found a decent one-made by Inline Tube.

Much nicer looking unit than the Crown cable, and so far it operates smoothly.
Time will tell, but I think this is going to be a good thing.
The only disappointment was the end that hooks to the pedal-it was too narrow to attach to the pedal.
A little prying, bending, and hammering fixed that!

fb Looks good! Probably originally designed as an ebrake cable, that's why the end doesn't fit without modification.

Years ago I found that a certain GM ebrake cable was an identical match for the long clutch cable in my '71.

Keep us updated on long term results

OK, so what was the application for that certain GM E brake cable?

Well, I think Inline probably makes these custom for this application. I imagine they have tooling to make their own cables. If you have the raw materials (sheath, cable, ends) and a machine to cut the parts and attach the ends, you could make any length and ends you want.

Which version did you get; stainless or OE steel? Premature stretching seems to be the biggest problem I've experienced with the Crown cables. Inline Tube will be my next cable as well...

    Mine's stainless steel.
The big problem I had with the Crown ones is binding up, especially when hot.

I don't recall the GM ebrake application... it was probably ~23 years ago.
