Windshield washer addition

Hi,

I am considering adding a manual pump and windshield washer bag to my 66 CJ... I have couple of questions:

1- Would that break the "keep it original" - I believe the washer bag and manual pump were dealer installed?
2- I search on the internet and manage to find washer bags but could not find a Kaiser manual pump - I did find (for a mini) a manual pump that could be use as a substitute.

3- Assuming I am not breaking the "keep it original" rule - anybody knows where the pump knob would have been installed and if one or two squirters were installed.

4- Let me know if you think this is a bad idea? (i.e. more holes in the body for little benefit)

My little CJ is all stock at the moment except for the Solex which will soon disappear and I want it to stay that way.

 

The stock squirter is a single unit with two nozzles located right in the middle of the cowl.

 

My 1970 has the stock set up....a bag on the drivers inner fender (in an inconvenient spot under the heater) & a hand pump on the dash. Not sure if that would be the same for 66 or not...

Where the hand pump was located on the dash? If you have a photo of your dash that would be appreciated

Again, I'm not sure of the difference between 66 4 cyl and 70 V6...

Here's what I have...sorry for the dirt & crud, this is a mountain Jeep, not a show car!

Here's the washer knob, just below & left of the ignition switch, almost directly above the steering column.

Wow... nice to see an original piece! I have been told that these are almost inexistent these days. I find it interesting to see how the piece was designed.... they likely got more pumping action by using a lever than attaching the pump directly to the knob.

Hey Doug, what color is the bag? Does it have any writing on it?

 

It's 45 years old, very grungy, & has multiple layers of over spray from El cheapo paint jobs.
Looks like it was clear or translucent plastic when new...no writing or markings are visible anymore.

 

I was curious as I've seen some for sale that are red with jeep printed on them in white.

 

I had that hand pump on the 71 . but in my opinion . they didn't work very well . pushing ( self returning) and pulling on knob . just to wash windshield . I put a 12V pump on firewall by the bag and used a momentary pull switch with original knob

 

This is what the daughter's late'69 early '70 had with the dash pump. It was replaced with an electric pump, regular plastic bottle, and momentary contact pushbutton switch.

 

The original plastic sack will not last long if you put headers on. Don't ask

 

On my '69 Commando the bag is marked TRICO. Stock pump failed, (part of the wiper motor) so I went to a FLAPS electric pump.

 

I just got a 1970 Renegade I and it has the entire washer set up in tact. I am trying to figure out how the nozzle works. Maybe someone can help? Mine has two holes and one of them is plugged by a very small screw with a head for a flat blade screwdriver. Is this to block one side if you only want to wash the driver's side? Sorry, this seems like it should be pretty obvious but apparently not to me. :JEEP:coleman

 

yes there should be two nozzles . but I guess one will work
