I got the Jeep out of Sebastopol, how'd you know?

Your very first post has a photobucket link, and the caption on the first photo says where you got it and how much. I spent a lot of time tooling around the Sebastopol area in our first Jeep, which was a '58 M38A1. We bought that as a running rig for $600 from an old guy out at Bodega Bay. Still visit every couple of years, since Mrs. GraySkies still has family there.

I'm still alive. Wife had another kid, I guess its mine; looks just like me. Jeep is in limbo, I have to admit my motivation on finishing was compromised quite a bit. Then my co-worker pulled up in his dads 44 Willy's a few days ago, so a new fire was lit under my a$$.

Moving forward, the punch list includes:

    1. Addressing the re-wiring situation (Faultless or EZ)?
    2. Need some headers . . . (sugguestions needed)
    3. Finish the H.E.I. distributor
    4. Scuff and shoot the last coat of paint. (No Goldmember this time)
    5. Apply the truck bed liner to the interior floors
    6. I need to do something else, but I can't remember what it was that I needed to accomplish. (Age it getting to me, who are you people again?)

    Update:

I have my buddy from work coming by this weekend to rebuild the Rochester 2 Barrel carb. He has a 73 CJ5 and a few hot rods so he said he is down to help the less fortunate, aka the mechically disinclined (me).

Tomorrow the EZ Wiring kit will arrive in the mail from Home | E Z Wiring | Florida USA

I ordered replacement (used) battery tray ($50) from J&W Jeep - J&W Auto Wreckers - New & Used Jeep Parts since nobody makes a repop for the Dauntless; which should be here on Monday.

    I ordered the new speedo from www.kaiserwillys.com but its on backorder 45 days + . . .

My wife and kids are leaving to California to visit family for a week, so I'll have alot more free time to get cranking. Plus it gives me a few days to hide all the stuff I bought.

    :D

So I'm having this internal battle going on in my head. The perfectionist in me is going nuts because the radiator is off center. The reason being is because I read (somewhere) to be mindful of the proximity of your radiator to your brake lines as to not lose braking power when the vehicle gets hot. So I had to move it toward the passenger side for three reasons; 1. The proximity to the brakes lines on the drivers side. 2. So those rods that go from the firewall to the grill on the snub nose models like mine have a home in the proximity where they are supposed to be. 3. Clearance issue between the fan blade and radiator hose on the passenger side.

I know my new aim is to just get Jeep running, and aesthetics are not my priority. But it still drives me a little nuts.

    :banghead:

BTW, I'm missing a headlight trim ring. Must have went MIA during the last move.

And yes, I paint bright orange on the handles of all my tools, because I'm the type that spend 2 minutes working with them, and 2 hours looking for them . . . :D

Spent 2 days +/- making the cuts on the body and body armor for the 4 inch recessed LED's. I think I had to meassure like 40 times I was paranoid they would be off center. Plus we've all seen lights installed either too high or too low and thought WTF was he thinking? My solution, weld patch panels into the original holes and DON'T try to match the factory location. (To low, to inward IMHO). I wanted mine proportionate with the body armor.

Not a ton of progress . . . But its not as simple as I thought. In my simple brain; 4 inch LED= 4 and 1/8 circular cutting wheel. (Burnt up one drill Harbor Freight drill in the process). Then I learned (after the fact) that the LED's were 4 inches, but the hole needed to be closer to 4.5 inches to house the rubber grommets. So some careful grinding took place. Following by more grinding; followed by a few four letter words; and then some more grinding.

Lesson learned for when I have to drill out the turn signals and back-up lights!

Pictures of IRQVET's 67 CJ5 now. Body was stripped, all rust spots removed and repainted Fountain Green then mounted on a 1960 chassis. The 60 has now been restored to original. It belonged to my father-in-law who bought it new. Next project is to put the rusty 60 body on to the 67 chassis and get it back up and running. Many thanks to everyone on this site!
