It just means I'll get the transfer case sealed up a little sooner. It all needed to come out to get cleaned up anyhow.

Good luck...it's a jeep. I spent several years trying to "seal" mine up with no luck. I believe the shift fork shafts are open and not sealed on tranny and transfer case so they will always weap. My solution was cardboard:rofl: Knowing what kind of work you do, you will have better luck than I.

Yes, I was until the clutch went. The tranny is out, parts are ordered. Hopefully I'll be driving it again in a week or so...

So I decided to rebuild the transfer case and transmission while they were out. I have never seen so much grease, oil, and dirt buildup. I spent a *lot* of time cleaning the cases. Transfer case is done, clutch is in, but I'm waiting on transmission parts to get here.

    Hi Patrick

I havent been on here in a while...your thread pops up at the top of the "new posts"....I am loving it....how does the CJ2A compare to the 2001 TJ?
I am gonna be following this rebuild with much interest.

I really love the looks of these flat fenders.

    Thanks for sharing...

It doesn't. They aren't even remotely comparable.

My transmission rebuild parts came in last night, so I got it done this morning, and put the Jeep back together this afternoon.

I replaced both pinion seals today, and resealed the leaky fuel pump gasket. This Jeep is *almost* leak-free now. At least, it isn't leaving large puddles over night any more. Next up is to replace the ammeter with a volt meter and make a new charge wire, replace the knuckle seals/ wipers, and convert the oil bath air cleaner to a paper element. I'm going to retain the oil bath housing. I have poly body mounts on the way as well (the body is sitting right on the frame- and the transfer case).
