Clutch linkage done...

    Hey Guys,

    OK, so I didn't end up doing the chain linkage thing, but rather improving the old system. The chain system had too much flex in it, and I wasn't up for reinforcing it enough to my satisfaction. Basically, I ended up reinstalling the old bellcrank, making sure that it was centered well and installed some grease zirks, and replaced the connecting rod with this....

    The Heim joints make for a MUCH smoother action on the clutch pedal. It takes considerably less effort to work the clutch now. Best part is, there isn't any modifications necessary to do this. I just have to get it twisted up to see if it'll still bind up, although I suspect this will reduce it greatly.

    THats what a Heim joint is??? I keep hearing about them but didn't realize thats what it was. I was looking at one of the A/C filling machines they just put in at work and they have some linkage that uses the same ends. Thought that would work great for the jeep linkage.

    Where'd you get the joints? should the local hardware store have them?

    Check with your local bearing supply houses. Barring that, find a place that does industrial belts and chains. If all else fails, McMaster-Carr has 'em. Think they call them "ball joint rod ends" or something to that effect.

    Found a bearing place in Livonia, about 40 minutes from me, but its right on the way to work so I'll have to stop in and see what they have.

    Thad: That is sort of what the PO did to my orig bell crank set up. Works fine but still retains the short cable and ball ent to the clutch fork.
