Pielut's Renegade I....maybe

Looks like I may have a 1970 Renegade I on my hands. This is the same Jeep that I purchased a few years ago.
I haven't spent much time on the old girl because I've been focused on my 66. After reading several threads regarding Ren1 identification, I noticed that my Jeep has many of these attributes. The Jeep was painted black (poorly) and it has a repainted dash. Check out the pics and let me know what you think.

The biggest clue is the Lime Green that is hiding all over the Jeep.

Folks here believe another sign is the two ballast resistors on the firewall.

And here is a pic showing the two gauges on the left side of the steering column. Also note the small notch to locate and "clock" the factory gauge.

Tailgate to identify Renegade I, also note the "Jeep" stamped on center of tailgate.

    Driver side rear marker light...indented

Passenger side marker light...mounted flush with tub.

By referencing the VIN history page from Mark Olsen, my Jeep was built around March/April 1970

I'd restore it and paint it the original green. It's clearly a Ren 1. Finding the right taillights may be a chore.

More clues would be the holes for the stock swing away spare tire carrier mounting outside of the body seams on the back. Check for a special sales order tag on the fire wall inside the engine compartment passenger side. Does it have 2 separate wire loom plugs in the engine compartment where the wiring comes thru? What wheels does it have on it? I have started a thread in picture requests of any & all R1's. I'm excited to see more.

Here are a few pics regarding the items you addressed. Unfortunately, I don't have the original wheels and no sign of a special sales tag.

Holes on passenger side for possible tire carrier.

In addition to the items you mentioned, I found something interesting. Looks like it may be a factory cover plate for a PTO. The hole is cut neatly and the edges
of the cut are rolled creating a smooth lip. Also note the lime green paint again.

Just curious, are the insides of your front frame rails (between the bumper and grille) boxed in any way? If so, do you have pics?

They are boxed, no pics handy, but I can take a couple and post them tomorrow. Not sure if the boxed front frame horns are factory or from a previous owner.

So far so good! I'm not an authority just cuz I own one. But the evidence is there. Too bad the Ren1 spare tire carrier didn't come with it. Probably scrapped in favor of the installation of the later rear mount fuel tank.

I am working on figuring out a way to mount the later rear fuel tank & skid plate with the filler on the driver side, side so it doesn't interfere with the tire carrier.

Do you have a picture of the tire carrier? Curious what it looks like.

I will need to get u pictures of mine since there are distinct features of the design that make it original. One of which is the inverted U in the center of the arm structure & the ends of some of the tubes are actually flattened or pinched at the weld point.
There is another member here that works at ARB Air Locker & is restoring a Ren 1 here in my area that may be able to share the pictures & info he got from mine a couple years ago. Hopefully he will see this thread & follow along.

Thanks 73 cj5, looking at the picture of the pass side mount, it appears that the hole spacing matches what I have on the Jeep.
Honeywells41, thanks for the response. I look forward to seeing your original carrier.
    Does it look this this???

Yes! That is it. And it fits around the original tail light on the passenger side. That is the carrier I have which is part of the Ren 1 trim package. That one in your picture is a bit straighter than mine however.

Does your front frame boxing happen to look like this?:

Zoomer, this is what my front frame horns look like. It's not your typical "boxing" in which a single plate is added and welded top and bottom.
The only weld is along the bottom side, hard to see in the pic, but there is a weld.

The boxing on mine looks like zoomers.

Bert, do you have a build date (or serial number) for your Renegade?
