69 Commando

Looking at this for $2300. Has the automatic transmission with 225 engine.
Would like to restore, no big mods, use as a nice weekend ride.
Any thoughts on price, too high? I know the pictures don't show a lot of detail.

 

Looks good to me if it:

1)Runs
2)Steers
3)Stops
4) 4WD engages.

 

Does not run, been sitting for 5 years.
Not sure about the steering, probably Ross
Stops-?
4wd-?

 

For your area, it looks to be in nice shape. seats included?

 

That's a no deal for me.
I don't buy vehicles that don't run unless its for parts. Just personal preference. I already inherited two that don't run.

 

I have to admit, I did buy my '69 Commando for more than $1000 less but after you figure in the 4 weeks I spent fixing everything, welding the fenders and frame, wiring, brakes, buying the flanged rear axle, spring bushings, pitman arm bearings, pinion seal, tuning, u joints. It might not of been such a good buy. But it ran last winter when I needed it.
It's a Jeep, what do you expect?

 

I've sold 2 Jeepsters recently, a '70 and '71. Both ran. That one looks like it has pretty decent floors, but as was stated previously, not running is a risk - can be a little thing like a fuel pump or a big thing like a rebuild. So anywhere from $50 on up to well over $2000. This is just my opinion, but I'd start at no more than $1500 on that one and probably wouldn't go over $1800. I don't know what your budget is, but you are almost always better off paying a little more for something that runs and is a little more together. My 2 cents.

Completeness is a big issue with these. Parts are scarce. No interior?

Tailgate rusty? Body looks pretty good otherwise.

30 rear axle or 44?

 

Yeah, seems pricey to me as well, my '68 was bought for $700, running, may be uglier than that one but was fairly complete. Been traveling in it as DD for a few weeks now, seems to get better by the day. There's a thread on here for it - "Commando herd increases".
