Choke cable and oil bath

    Hello all,
Needing alittle help with my choke cable. When installed without the oil bath unit in place, it works fine. But when I put the oil bath unit on, the choke cable is put into a bind by how low the oil bath unit sits. When I install the large washer underneath the bath unit for extra clearance, my threaded post is too short to stick out the oil bath for me to put the wing but on.
Here are a few pics, can you guys take a look and post some advice.

    Thank you

I bought a universal spacer kit at FLAPS to fix the issue. My stud is so long that I didn't have any issues adding a spacer to clear the linkage.

IIRC there was a factory spacer to solve this problem.

Looking at the above photo, I can see how the wire is kinked to make it go into the attachment block. It looks like the cable may be mounted too high.

Can you remove the plate that is mounted to the carb, and flip it over so the tab that mounts the cable clamp is down??? This would lower the cable, and make the wire line up better.

Or, make a new plate for mounting the cable clamp??

    Thanks for the advice Mike,

the he bolt holding the clamp on looks as if it runs through the carb and a few gaskets, I would hate to take it out and in the process open up a whole new can of worms. I do see what you are saying about flipping it. I may try to bend it down a little.
One thing I did do that has helped it out some was cut the slack out of the choke cable. " shortest distance between two points is a strieght line" this has helped, perhaps with bending the clamp down some this will solve the issue.

    Thanks

You should consider the thick gasket and a longer center bolt.

Maybe someone can make a quick measurement of their center bolt to see if RJ has correct length. Just got to work but I'll take a look when I get home this evening if someone hasn't posted for you. I am running original oil bath set-up with spacer and bolt is long enough, and choke clears.

Don't forget that the oil-bath housing has a front and back mounting location. When properly positioned it will have the special indentation in the bottom that will allow the carb choke lever to move freely under the housing and there will be another hump to mold over the fuel inlet to the carb. Down inside the housing I have a "FRONT" stamped in the bottom and I think "OIL LEVEL" also stamped there.

Here is how I set mine up - the cable attachment block screw is on the bottom and the end of the wire is not bent up. Maybe that is an option?

I also measured the center bolt - mine is 4 inches from the lock nut, and that gives a nice comfortable amount of the bolt sticking through the oil bath to easily put the wing nut on. Notice our bolts are slightly different - take it for what its worth.

Thanks for all the replys. I think that I've got it between shorting the choke cable and bending the clamp down. I did not notice the notch on the bottom of the oil bath but I will check on that when the sun comes up!
