After doing a search and not finding any "recent" replies, I would like some info on the
rubber or neoprene rear main seal that are available.. Such as which are good and which are not.
I understand that there are {were} some on the market that were not sized proper.
Does anyone still use the rope seal with success? This engine is the f143, 64 model.
    Thanks

    nickmil In mothballs.

I don't like rope seals and avoid them when possible. There is a guy on E-bay that is selling a neoprene replacement that claims in his ad that it is sized correctly and mentions the incorrectly sized ones. Might try a search on that. He is also selling shifter boots and lots of other parts that are supposed to be correct for the various Jeeps. I have not used his stuff so cannot comment further.

I've had a transaction with him. Seems reliable and cooperative.

Got the victor overhaul set for my f134 in the M38A1, but I ordered 2 of the rubber seals. When I get time to assemble it I will see how they are. I will use the rubber seal though on both the 55 M38A1 and the 64 CJ5.
