CJ6 Value Question

    Hi guys,

I am a 2A guy and don't know much about the values of a CJ6. There is a local person here that is looking to sell her husband's 1967 CJ6- he has since died. It is probably the nicest original in the US. He bought it new, drove it immediately to Zeibart for rustproofing and the kept it in a heated garage all these years. It has 13,000 original miles on it. The original vinyl top has crystal clear plastic windows. It has the original paint, tires and seats. It has the Hurricane 4 and a factory Ramsey on the front. You could eat off the engine its that clean. This Jeep was his pride and joy.

Any clue on what the value would be?

    Thanks,
    Bill Norris

Wow, really? Interested in buying it for yourself? If so, then go to your local bank right now, get out $5,000 in cash and run, don't walk, to her house.

Helping her sell it? Then put it on ebay.

What you described is almost non-existent, hard to say what it might go for, but I'm guessing it won't be cheap.

Location? Color of house, street address, city and state will be fine.

    Keep us posted.

Wow--A member since 2002 and? The question is what is it worth to you? In my area about 5-6 grand..

I just came across the 2007 appraisal for it - $39,000! There is no way I could afford that. I think that's pretty steep. That is why I was posing the question- I have been a member for a while, but this is so rare and completely out of my area of expertise.

    Thanks,
    Bill

In today's market I doubt there are any CJs that will bring that kind of money. I've recently seen low mileage originals go for in the 10-15 k range but 39 seems awfully high to me. Prices were quite a bit higher back in 07.

Just came in from outside to warm up, working on getting our '56 CJ6 running, cleaning up grounds at the moment. It doesn't look anywhere as nice as that one.

$39,000? That's dreaming. Unless maybe it goes to one of those #%@$! Car Auctions where the buyers have deep pockets and little sense.

    Is that original unrestored?

Keep us posted on how/when this sale happens.

You guys are kind of confirming what I thought. She isn't interested in getting top dollar for it. She is more concerned it goes to someone that would appreciate it for what it is. She doesn't want just a couple grand for it either and she doesn't want it to be a rockcrawler.

I did not think of that, that things were that much better back in 2007- good point I did not consider.

Yes, this is an unrestored original survivor. My pictures don't do it justice. The original paint on it shines like the day it rolled off the line. It is a true time capsule. Those are the original Goodyear Suburbanites on it.

    Thanks for the feedback.

In France, CJ6 are more difficult to sell than CJ5. It is maybe 30/40% less because it is the "long" one.
Of course it is a perfect one. A "new" Willys or rebuild is around 20.000 Euros, new from Philippines approx 30.000 euros but this is the WWII model, for collectors.
    I wouldn' t pay more than 12.000 $ for this, but I don't want a CJ6 if I can get a CJ5...
But this one is fantastically beautiful, it is value for money.

Looks like I lied, it has 14,000 original miles on it. Here are some more pictures for those who are interested.

Man, that is beautiful. The full front seat and rear wheel house cushions were both available as a part of the Tuxedo Park package. Check the vin number. If it begins with 8422, then it's not just a CJ-6, it's a CJ-6A Tuxedo Park. According to what I've read, there were approx 460 of them made from '64 - '67.

    (I'm checking flight schedules now);)

It has none of the Tux bright work - probably just optioned the seat and cushions. I went to a NOS dealer auction once and there were stacks of those wheelhouse cushions there.

You're right, missing bumpers, hinges, etc. But it doesn't hurt to check.

No, it is definitely not a Tuxedo Park. He ordered it from the dealer with very specific options, and those seat pads were on his wish list. He owned an ambulance company and this was his 'off road' rig. The number 53 on the side is the vehicle fleet number. Those seat pads were for the attendant to sit on. It also has powr-lok axles front and rear if I remember right. After each run, he would bring it back to the garage and wash it down, and then place it under a car cover. All service was done at the Jeep dealer.

That's a different market - car collectors, not enthusiasts. I'm skeptical that the owner will find a buyer at that price though. Jeeps are not that strong on the collector market.

Appraisal value is also high, for insurance purposes.

It's a nice looking Jeep, but it's a little too well preserved to appeal to me.

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

Beautiful Jeep. If nothing else, lots of pictures would be good for historical value around here. What exactly did that year look like from the factory.

And looking from the picts it has an overdrive?

I will try and get a bunch of detail pictures next time I am over there. No, it doesn't have overdrive. I think you are seeing the lever for the front winch between the seats.

High teens for quick sell...low 20s if you have some time. Just my gut feeling.
