225 engine assembly

The sealant is properly known as Aviation Sealant. I use Permatex 80019, Aviation Form-A-Gasket Sealant Liquid.

Rocky, how did the oven cleaner work? Got any pics of those parts? I got my timing cover, water pump cover, etc off--had to Bubba up a homemade puller to get the crank pulley off. This thing is covered in oil/crud--time to start cleaning!

 

Took off all the grease and most of the paint. Everything else is already painted. Got to get some more primer before this one gets paint.

 

Cover those eyeballs!

 

I've got my 225 mostly assembled as well, just have to get new washers and then the oil pan goes on. I have taken a ton of pictures of the entire process.

I agree. However not a big issue when it's just water. BTW everyone I just broke the link to the photos by moving them into an album. Will work to fix.

 

Links fixed. Added a link to my sig to all the photos. Have to copy and paste. The mobile app won't do that(iPhone) and Kindle Fire sucks and I can't get it copied correctly. Had to type it in. Maybe one of the mods can fix for me.

 

Yeah, pistons have shipped.

 

Good news on the link and the pistons! Man, I hate to keep asking for more, but part #'s would be awesome if you could provide those at some point.

 

A little bit of advice. The front crankshaft seal is rope packing in a seal like housing. Be careful removing it. Its not available as far as I know. Drive it out from the front using the packing to cushion it. Its called the crankshaft shedder in the FSM.

There will be. Probably one of this weekends steps. Still have to paint the front engine cover before I install the seal.

 

The front seal is available in both a rope or rubber seal. To use the rubber seal, you must grind away the stake marks holding the old seal housing in place. You then press out the old rope seal housing and then press a new rubber seal in. I use RTV on the outside of the seal before pressing it into the timing cover for a little extra insurance against leaks. I have pictures at home along with the number on the seal itself.
