I have found myself with a unused jeep body and a couple or rear axles. Has anyone made a trailer out of a CJ5 tub? I saw one made with the whole body but no offroad trailers made out of the old bodies. Would this be a good/bad idea? Comments/Concerns/Advice?

I've seen one made from the back half of two tubs welded together. Seems like an OK way to get a trailer body then build yourself a frame.

48cj2a, I think that trailer is a new kit sold by dinoot.com. It's a fiberglass tub and a harbor freight, etc. frame. The design was originally completed by the same craftsman/artist that made the cj nose for tj's(search Jeff Scherb....Awesome work!).

Thanks for the replies. This is one of the last things on my to do list but looking for ideas so I can play around on cad in my spare time. Couple of questions.

What is a good weight goal for this trailer? It will be used to haul camping gear up the mountains. (I have V6 with 5.38s and 33s)

Are there any CAD files floating around of the early CJ5 jeep body or frame?

Look at the Specs on the M100-M416 trailers built for the 1/4 ton Jeeps.

To be safe on stock brakes and over all size of the Jeep I would not venture too far from its overall design.
