WO Repli-tub

Was just browsing through some build threads and saw mention of Willys Overland's Repli Tubs. How do these compare to the original tubs and to other repro tubs? How are they priced? I found a very good original '74 tub for my '75, but it isn't perfect and things would have to be changed to make it 100% correct for the '75 - "Jeep" logo on the cowl, bolt-in trans. access plate vs. welded-in, slightly different bolt pattern for the dash panel, etc.

 

I'd say go with the '74 tub. The W-O tub is the same MD Juan tub that everybody sells, but they do some preliminary massaging to make it fit better. $2500-3000 for a tub? Something like that.

To me, the main difference in the '74 tub is the logo. Having the floors unbolt is a feature. I suspect that Jeep welded the floors in '75 to cut their production costs. Some of the openings are vestigial, like the round lid that you used to fill the brake fluid through. But being able to remove all the floors could be hel[pful for service.

Not sure what you mean about the dash bolt pattern - where is that? Maybe you could just use the '74 dash.

My '74 tub is nearly rust-free, but the Jeep was romped on pretty hard - it's slightly sagged front-to-back, and has a few bowed areas from excessive flexing, but nothing that can't be fixed just as easily as rust. Has the quality on the MD Juan tubs indeed gotten better?

 

just looked at a m38 with a repli tub from w/o quality looked good the oldtimer that did the jeep said it was tons better than the last one he used about 10 years ago...he claimed it bolted right on no mods needed...fit and finish looked acceptable for a driver wouldnt pass a concourse show he did do some mods to the cowl and floor for personal reasons

 

First choice is to fix what I have, next is to find a good original replacement tub. Last two would be a tie for a WO tub or a fiberglass tub. Depending on what you wanted to do with the jeep. I know a guy that used one for his CJ6 and he had a lot of little problems. He moved holes, mounting points, etc. His first tub came damaged and it took a couple of months to get another one. I think he settled on just getting a partial refund and fixing the tub. But at least it had no rust.
