I must have taken fifty pictures of my Jeep before I started tearing it down. I did refer back to them as I rebuilt, so I'm glad I did it. Yours should be pretty straight forward considering you can save most of the wiring, pedals, etc.

 

John I have to agree with you , we stripped it down pretty fast me and my Bronco buddy . he's like -well next weekend we'll just build the other one ..........

the tub comes off tomorrow , everything has been stripped off.there are jeep parts everywhere.

 

our cat has been either sleeping in the jeep seat or on the soft top ,she is not happy.

found broken body mount off the frame , broken steering stabilizer and 6 frame cracks varing in length , all in the usual spots 1 was 3" long on the top and down the side of the frame , I had not seen that one.

 

get the green 3m cut off wheels worth every cent.

 

Check your motor mounts also. I found one that was starting to go on mine. It's a good time to replace both if they are old now that you have easy access.
I think I have extras of both sides if you need them.

 

thanks for the tip sguys .just installed new mounts . I will be crusing over to buy what ever boxing metal you didnot use though . and I will be checking on the cut off wheels I will be needing a few.......

thinking the Olds might have to stay outside . working on 2 frames and 2 tubs s is killing the space in my garage .

Hey Steve, just my .02 but I quit buying the HF cutoff discs. They seem cheap because you get a lot of them, but I switched to De Walt brand discs and they seem to last forever. Haven't had any of them self-destruct either. I also quit buying the $20 angle grinders from HF. I went through 2 of them working on my frame and assorted stuff. I then bought a Milwaukie and it's ten times the tool as the HF units. I have one more cheapo that doesn't want to die. When it goes it'll be replaced by another Milwaukie. Unless you don't mind constantly changing from cut-off to grinder, it's really nice to have two angle grinders so you can have a different disc on each. In the perfect world, three would be the ultimate. Cut-off, grinder, flapper.

 

Barona is a 1/8 mile track my car is not set up for that short a track . thinking of covering the car in light painters plastic with 1 full sheet and them use the car cover . incase we get some rain .

really started stripping my frame took the rear bumper , brakelines ,shock hoops off today .a plasma cutter is the BOMB , wow what a great tool.

 

I have had horrible luck with flap wheels and I don't buy HF discs ,their really cheap and will frag often taking fingers .Just NOT worth it
Most of my tools are Millwaukie. I have the 12A variable speed grinder and that thing used to be my best friend ,,,till I met Mr. Plasma Cutter .

I'll take an oxy-acetyline setup over a plasma any day

 

I can't imagine why. . . I'm pretty good at cutting with gas and oxygen, but it's messy, slaggy and the metal gets really hot. If it's not that thick you get warpage.

 

I agree with Posi , no way !
all you need is air and a plug ,
ox/act tanks are expensive to fill , and very messy and all the extra heat ,
for me Plasma is working the best for the thickness of a cj frame .
